Daniel J. King - Principal

Dan King is principal and founder of Career Planning and Management, Inc. With over 25 years experience in counseling, training and career development, he supports individuals and organizations in planning and managing a wide range of contemporary worklife and workplace issues.

Over the past twenty years, Dan has designed and managed programs and services to align individual career goals with organizational performance objectives, working with such diverse clients as IBM/Lotus, Harvard University, Weber-Shandwick, NStar, MIT, Tufts Health Plan, Wyeth, Marriott, the Education Development Center, and Bank of America (formerly Fleet/BankBoston). Particular areas of expertise include professional development coaching, competency/skill analysis, and change management.

Dan is the resident career expert on Boston's Personal Finance Radio appearing regularly on the program, Hire Frequencies, and is a regular contributor to the Career Connection column at JobFind.com.  His articles have appeared in numerous publications and websites, including the Boston Business Journal, Mass High Tech, CareerBuilder, JobMonthly, and HR.Com.  He has designed and presented such workshops as Navigating Your Career in Today’s Changing Workplace, Winning at Organizational Politics Without Losing Your Soul and Coaching Careers and Performance -- and is a frequent presenter on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a self-assessment instrument with many practical applications to the workplace.

Prior to developing Career Planning and Management, Inc., he served as Senior Consultant for a national outplacement/career management firm, where he designed and implemented the firm's Executive Coaching and Retirement Planning programs. As Director of a Management Training Center with a multinational Fortune 500 company based in Washington, DC, he implemented a Leadership Development Program and was a contributor and advisor to the company's Career Development Program, aimed at providing continuous skill development for managers within the organization.

Dan holds a M.Ed. in Counseling, a B.A. in Sociology/Psychology, and has earned recognition as Career Management Fellow (CMF) from the International Board for Career Management Certification. He is also a Master Career Counselor (MCC) recognized by the National Career Development Association.   Additional professional affiliations are the Association of Career Professionals International, the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers and the World Future Society.

Mark Guterman - Senior Consultant, San Francisco / Bay Area

Mark Guterman is a Senior Consultant with Career Planning and Management, Inc., through an affiliation with G & G Associates, a consulting firm in Northern California specializing in preparing people and organizations for work in the 21st century. Mark teaches for JFK University’s MA program in Career Development, does individual career counseling and coaching, and trains and consults for organizations in various aspects of career management and work/life balance. Some of the organizations he has worked with are: Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems, Cisco Systems, Levi Strauss, Kaiser Permanente, Citibank, Safeway, Pacific Bell, as well as many other large and small organizations.

Mark is also an author and product developer. His book, Common Sense for Uncommon Times: The Power of Balance in Work, Family, and Personal Life, was published in 1994 by Davies-Black. He is currently co-authoring a book chapter entitled, “Values in the Emerging Work World,” which will soon appear in a revised edition of New Directions in Career Planning and the Workplace. He is also the co-author of ValueSearch, a cross-culturally based process that helps individuals, groups, and organizations determine the values that give meaning to their life and work. In addition, he has created nine other training and development programs used extensively by groups and organizations.

Mark has his BA from UCLA and an MA in Counseling from Sonoma State University. He is a member of the California Career Development Association, the Career Planning and Adult Development Network, and the Career Development Futures Forum. He is also a frequent speaker to organizations and conferences throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Jane McHale - Senior Consultant, Boston / New England Area

Jane McHale provides career management consulting to Career Planning and Management, Inc. organizational development projects throughout New England. As a Career Development Consultant, Coach and Trainer, serving organizations and individuals since 1985, her practical advice is highly regarded by both clients and peers.

Jane has been a member of the career development consulting staff at Polaroid Corporation for 8 years, and opened the Career Resource Center as Career Development Consultant with BankBoston in 1995.  She was also a Career Counselor and Trainer with the Career Action Center in Cupertino, California, offering professional development coaching to corporate clients in the Boston area. 

Most recently, she served as the Career Makeover Expert on Monster.com and a Performance and Professional Development Coach at Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Her career workshops include Skills for the New Workplace, Career Fitness, Test your Career Path, Career Decision Making, and Career Coaching for Managers. 

Jane received her Masters Degree in Counseling from University of Colorado and has been honored with numerous awards as Director of Human Resources for Marriott Corporation/Hotel Division.  In October 2000, Jane was awarded the Fountain Award for Special Distinction in Career Development by Boston’s first collaboration of six Career Development Associations including IACMP and the Career Counselors Consortium.

Her professional affiliations include IACMP (International Association for Career Management Professionals), NCDA (National Career Development Association), World Future Society, Career Planning and Adult Development Network, and she is a founding member of ICC (Independent Career Consultants), a professional development group for career counselors in private practice.

Terry Del Percio - Senior Consultant, Boston / New England Area

Terry Del Percio is a Senior Consultant with Career Planning and Management, Inc. and works through an alliance with The Work Strategies Company based in Beverly, MA.  With over 20 years experience in personal change processes, leadership development, executive coaching and career management consultation, Terry works with each individual to determine what areas of focus make sense for their particular situation.

Some clients choose only to work on isolated issues or actions, such as interviewing more effectively, handling a current business relationship more effectively, or writing a dynamic resume. Others choose to take a more strategic approach and for them a more comprehensive planning and implementation process is utilized. Terry is recognized for her ability to identify and reshape language and communication obstacles that are often very subtle, but which have a tremendous impact on an individual’s ability to market themselves and create positive change.

As previous Director within various financial services and consulting organizations, Terry has experienced the corporate environment first-hand, initially having an eleven year tenure with very large companies and subsequently with a start-up OD consulting firm for six years, emphasizing Organizational Effectiveness and Leadership Development. She spent several years designing and implementing numerous team interventions that spoke to the issues of continuous change and emotional intelligence.  Other areas of emphasis include mentoring and coaching managers positioned for rapid growth, the subtleties and power of effective communications, and effective teaming behaviors.

Terry holds a Masters of Science degree in Training and Development with undergraduate and post graduate work in psychology and counseling.  She continues to work with individuals and leaders on many levels, helping them create a holistic integration of work and life choices and practices. She is a certified administrator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Enneagram, and has used these tools extensively, providing valuable insights into how individuals and teams can function more effectively.

Andrew S. Brown - Career Counselor, Boston Office

Andrew Brown provides career counseling and coaching to individual clients of Career Planning and Management, Inc., through an alliance with Career Ventures in Boston. His areas of expertise include career testing and assessment, skills identification and career exploration.

For the past seven years, Andrew has counseled individuals on career change and transition, retirement planning, and job search strategy. A particular strength is in counseling for family businesses. His background in psychotherapy has proven extremely helpful for breaking through blocks to professional development and growth.

Andrew’s individual-focused approach is drawn from experience in inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy, special needs education, and counseling of adult learners. As a Career Counselor at Salem State College for 5 years, he provided coaching and support to graduate students, alumni and non-traditional students. In addition, he currently participates in Let’s Get Real, a program designed to help kids transition to the workplace.

Prior experience includes ten years experience in the construction/property development industry where he was General Manager, working with a variety of professional/trades staff. His perspective lends itself to clients from the full spectrum of entry-level to senior management roles. He is also an effective coach for identifying and evaluating alternative work options, ranging from part-time and contract position to entrepreneurship.

Andrew possesses a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Springfield College and a B.S. degree from Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Private Practice Colloquium, a Boston North Shore Professional Association. Other professional affiliations include the Career Counselors Consortium, Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers, Massachusetts Mental Health Association, and the International Association of Career Management Professionals.
